The actress, visiting the bi-annual event for her role in Discovery's "Klondike," found an adopted home for a young dog doing promotional work for Animal Planet's "Puppy Bowl."

A version of this story first appeared in the Jan. 31 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

The Television Critics Association press tour festivities aren't always a slog. RoboCop's Abbie Cornish, visiting the Langham Hotel in Pasadena to help promote her Discovery miniseries Klondike, ended up playing matchmaker for a floppy-eared nine-week-old shepherd mix that had been brought in for Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl PR blitz.

"I instantly fell in love with her," she tells THR. "She is such a beautiful and gorgeous bright light." Cornish's brother Hayden and his fiancee, Amanda, visited the dog the next day at her then-home: Adopt & Shop in Lakewood, Calif. Soon she was adopted and christened "Ivy."

"You know when an animal is right for you: The connection is strong and undeniable," says Cornish. "There are so many animals in shelters and adoption centers that need loving homes."
