ABC, Canwest renew 'Rookie Blue'
Canuck cop drama boasts 2.1 million total viewersTORONTO -- ABC and Canadian broadcaster Canwest Global Communications Corp. have renewed the summer cop drama "Rookie Blue" for a second season.
"We're very pleased that the show has connected with viewers, especially considering the challenge of finding an audience in the summer," Quinn Taylor, senior vp of movies, miniseries and acquisitions at the ABC Entertainment Group said of the sophomore season order for indie producers Thump Inc. and E1 Entertainment.
The freshman Canuck series about five inexperienced rookies thrown into the world of big city policing stars Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith ("Everwood"), Enuka Okuma and Travis Milne.
The drama snagged 2.1 million total viewers when it debuted on Thursday nights from June 24 on Global Television, in simulcast with the ABC airdate.
NBC Universal's Universal Networks International division earlier picked up the global pay-TV rights to the Toronto-produced series.
