ABC greenlights three pilots
Including one from 'Grey's Anatomy's' Shonda RhimesABC on Tuesday greenlighted three drama pilots from ABC Studios, including one exec produced by "Grey's Anatomy" creator/exec producer Shonda Rhimes.
That project, "Inside the Box," was joined on the pilot roster by "I, Claudia" and an untitled project based on the Argentinian drama "Brothers & Detectives."
"Inside the Box," written by Richard E. Robbins, is set in a Washington network news bureau and centers on an ambitious female news producer and her colleagues.
Robbins is exec producing with Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
Rhimes had been interested in the world of journalism as a setting for a show. She developed a project about a group of female journalists, which was picked up to pilot in 2006 but was ultimately shelved when Rhimes got busy with "Grey's" and its spinoff, "Private Practice."
Despite its throwback-to-ancient-Rome name, "I, Claudia" is a contemporary drama from writer John Scott Shepherd. The project centers on Claudia McIntire, a young prosecuting attorney who doesn't know that one day she is going to be a serious contender for the presidency of the U.S.
Shepherd ("The Days") penned the script for the pilot, which he is exec producing with Matt Gross.
ABC already put a woman in the Oval Office with Rod Lurie's 2005 drama "Commander in Chief," which starred Geena Davis as the first female U.S. president.
The untitled "Brothers & Detectives" adaptation, written and exec produced by Daniel Cerone, is about a low-level detective who, after the death of his estranged father, discovers he has a brilliant 11-year-old brother who is adept at helping him solve crimes.
