Rhimes' pilot among three from ABC Studios to get network greenlight

In the latest round of pilot news, ABC has greenlighted a trio of dramas from ABC Studios: "Inside the Box," exec produced by "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes"; "I, Claudia"; and an untitled project based on the Argentinian drama "Brothers & Detectives."

Elsewhere, Fox has picked up "Masterwork," from "Prison Break" creator Paul Scheuring, while NBC has handed a pilot order to futuristic drama "Day One," from "Heroes" writer- producer Jesse Alexander.

On the casting front, Bonnie Somerville has been tapped to co-star in NBC's comedy pilot "Off Duty," and Jesse Tyler Ferguson has joined ABC's comedy pilot "An American Family."

Rhimes previously developed a project about a group of female journalists, which was picked up to pilot in 2006 but was shelved when Rhimes got busy with "Grey's" and its spinoff, "Private Practice."

ABC put a woman in the Oval Office with Rod Lurie's 2005 drama "Commander in Chief," which starred Geena Davis as the first female president.

Futuristic dramas are in fashion this pilot season. In ABC's "Flash Forward," people black out for two minutes and each has a vision of the future. And ABC's "V" is set in a future in which Earth is ruled by aliens.

Somerville will play Malco's wife. Also cast in the pilot is Capethia Jenkins as the crusty police district chief.
