Former ABC News Anchor Kevin Newman To CTV

The former "Good Morning America" co-host joins Bell Media to co-anchor its political talker "Question Period."

TORONTO -- Veteran Canadian TV anchor Kevin Newman, who survived a cutthroat late 1990s Good Morning America gig, is to co-host the political talker Question Period on CTV, starting this Fall.

The hire comes a year after Newman ended a ten-year run anchoring Global National, rival Shaw Media’s flagship TV newcast.

That job followed the former ABC news anchor enduring a dramatic hiring and firing in 1998-99 when co-hosting Good Morning America with Lisa McRee.

“It took me years to repair what nine months as GMA’s male co-host did to my confidence and career,” Newman earlier this year told Canada’s Macleans magazine.

During his seven year stint with ABC News in New York, Newman also hosted and reported for Nightline and World News Tonight.

Now CTV News has hired Newman to co-host Question Period with Craig Oliver, and serve as parent Bell Media’s digital news evangelist, starting on August 22.
