Corus Entertainment has signed a licensing agreement to bring the U.S. property north of the border to target young adult viewers.

TORONTO – The Disney/ABC Television Group is pacting with Canadian broadcaster Corus Entertainment to bring its ABC Spark brand north of the broder.

The licensing agreement calls for the Canadianized channel to launch here in spring 2012, and build on the ABC Family offering by targeting young adult viewers.

The deal, brokered by Disney-ABC Domestic Television, also includes a multi-platform component.

Corus Entertainment earlier this year shepherded Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network into Canada, via another licensing agreement.

“We're confident that Canadian viewers will respond passionately to shows like "Switched at Birth," “The Lying Game” and "Secret Life of the American Teenager," in this new branded environment, just as viewers have in the U.S. and around the world,” Michael Riley, president of ABC Family, said in a statement about ABC Spark launching in the Great White North.

The move is the latest U.S. TV property to launch in Canada.

FX Networks Canada is launching on October 31 with a free preview period to win over subscribers.
