ABC Studios signs Fresco

Veteran comedy writer- producer Victor Fresco has inked a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios.

The seven- figure pact, which calls for Fresco to develop new projects for ABC Studios, bodes well for the chances of his comedy pilot presentation at sister network ABC.

The untitled project, which he developed under his recently expired overall pact at 20th Century Fox TV, is considered one of the hottest ABC pilots and the strongest prospect from an outside supplier on the comedy side.

The single-camera office comedy stars Jay Harrington as a moral guy trying to do right in an amoral world and co-stars Portia de Rossi.

Fresco had been at 20th TV for the past three years, working on the studio's "My Name Is Earl" and developing several projects, including the 2007 Fox pilot "Deeply Irresponsible."

It is understood that 20th TV had an opportunity to extend his deal but didn't make a play for it, allowing ABC Studios to step in. Still, Fresco is not severing ties with 20th TV completely as he would continue on the studio-produced comedy for ABC if it's picked up to series.

Before his stint at 20th TV, Fresco spent nine years at Paramount TV, where he created such series as "Life on a Stick" and the critically praised "Andy Richter Controls the Universe."

He is repped by ICM and attorney Jared Levine. (partialdiff)
