Abramorama, The Orchard to Release Musical Comedy 'Lucky Stiff' (Exclusive)
Jason Alexander and Nikki M. James star in the film helmed by Tony-nominated director Christopher Ashley.
Abramorama and The Orchard are teaming up to release musical comedy Lucky Stiff.
Richard Abramowitz's Abramorama will release the film in New York on July 24 at the AMC 25. The Orchard will complement the theatrical release by making the film available to all U.S. and Canadian cable, satellite and digital platforms for a simultaneous day-and-date release.
Helmed by Tony-nominated director Christopher Ashley, the film has a Broadway-heavy cast that includes Jason Alexander, Nikki M. James, Pamela Shaw, Dennis Farina, Dominic Marsh, Cheyenne Jackson and Kate Shindle.
Lucky Stiff centers on a young down-and-out British show salesman named harry Witherspoon (Marsh) who takes his dead American uncle (Don Amendolia) to Monte Carlo for the best time of his life. If the young man fulfills his dead uncle’s will to the letter, he will inherit the $6 million left to him. As Harry races from casino to nightclub to beach and bedroom with his dead uncle, he is chased by a desperate put-upon optometrist (Alexander) and his controlling, myopic, trigger-happy sister (Shaw).
Academy Award nominated composer-lyricist team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty wrote the screenplay and lyrics. Victor Syrmis and J. Todd Harris produced.
“Lucky Stiff instantly reminded me of all things I love about musical theater’ said Abramowitz, president of Abramorama. “We’re thrilled to work with this great team on such a delightful film, and happy to help get it out to the world.”
The deal was negotiated between Craig Sussman of the Orchard and Clay Epstein of Arclight Films.
