Abu Dhabi fest sets world premieres

'Son of Babylon,' 'True Colors' join competition

Two world premieres and an international premiere join 15 other films recently announced to compete in this year's Narrative Feature Competition at the Abu Dhabi Middle East International Film Festival.

World premieres include "Son of Babylon" (Ibn Babil) by Mohamed Al-Daradji (Iraq) and "True Colors" (Bil Awan Al Tabiyya) by Oussama Fawzi (Egypt) and the International Premiere of "Cooking With Stella" by Dilip Mehta (Canada).

"We're extremely proud to have assembled such a strong slate, especially with half these competing titles coming from the Middle East and North Africa and the filmmakers who made them having an opportunity to have their work judged alongside work from the rest of the world," said Peter Scarlet, new executive director for the festival.

Narrative film competitor, "The Traveler" (Al Mosafer), written and directed by Ahmed Maher will be shown at the Opening Night Gala starring Omar Sharif.

The 18 selected narrative and documentary feature films will compete for Black Pearl Awards at the festival, set to run Oct. 8-17.
