Academy revisits 'Life'

AMPAS to screen Douglas Sirk film on Aug. 21

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Douglas Sirk's "Imitation of Life" with the screening of a recently struck print of the film, hosted by critic Stephen Farber, on Aug. 21 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The evening will feature a discussion with actresses Susan Kohner and Juanita Moore, who both received supporting actress nominations for the film, conducted by Kohner's sons, filmmakers Paul and Chris Weitz. The print, which is part of the Academy Film Archive collection, was made from the Universal Pictures restoration.

"Imitation," starring Lana Turner, follows two single mothers -- a white actress (Turner) and her black housekeeper (Moore) -- and their relationships with their respective daughters, played by Sandra Dee and Kohner.
