She will be honored in recognition of the Academy's unparalleled film archive.

The Ischia Global Festival in Italy will award its Ischia Art Award to Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, on July 18.

The award is given to Isaacs in recognition of the Academy Film Archive, which, with over 180,000 items, is dedicated to the preservation, restoration and exhibition of films. The archive includes all the best-picture Oscar winners over the years, as well as personal collections from the likes of Cecil B. DeMille, George Stevens, Fred Zinnemann, and Sam Peckinpah.

The Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library has over a thousand collections documenting the works of Hollywood legends, including Katherine Hepburn, Edith Head and Alfred Hitchcock from scrapbooks to manuscripts to sheet music to storyboards.

"It is an honor and a pleasure to have Cheryl Boone Isaacs join us,” announced Ischia festival founder Pascal Vicedomini and honorary chairman Mark Canton in a statement. “As president of the Academy, her commitment to integration and human rights in the world of global communication, centered around the Oscars, has been highly influential. In her speech at the 2015 Oscars she highlighted the role of cinema in the fight for freedom of expression.”

Previous Ischia Art Award recipients include directors Taylor Hackford, Mario Martone, and Julie Taymor, production designers Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo and costume designer Sandy Powell.

As usual, Ischia’s lineup is chock full of award ceremonies. Antonio Banderas will receive the Ischia Legend Award. Matteo Garone will be honored with the Ischia Fantasy Award for his latest film Tale of Tales. Nicolas Winding Refn will be honored with European Director of the Year. Netflix’s Ted Sarandos will receive the Global Legend Award. The festival will also screen a Whitney Houston retrospective.

The Ischia Global Film and Music Festival takes place July 11-19.
