Adele Will Be Vogue's March 2012 Cover Girl, Taylor Swift Moved to February
The soulful singer will be the second plus-size celebrity to grace the cover of the fashion magazine.
Six-time Grammy-winning singer Adele has already graced the cover of British Vogue. Now WWD reports that the curvy soul singer will be on the cover of the coveted March 2012 Spring Fashion issue.
The March issue, in case you are not among the fashion cognoscenti, is second only to the September Fall Fashion Issue in terms of fashion spreads and advertising revenue. Poor Taylor Swift -- who just had her CoverGirl mascara yanked for false advertising -- was set to be the March covergirl but she has now been moved back to February.
This marks the first time a plus-size woman (Adele is size 16) will be on the March issue. And only the second pluser, after Dreamgirls Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, who was on a Vogue cover in 2007.
Adele is recovering from surgery on her vocal chords and plans to take it easy for the next few months. Maybe that's why she has time for the Vogue shoot. Vogue editrix Anna Wintour has reportedly asked several U.S and international designers to whip up something special for Adele, 23. It's worth noting that the Brit cover was a head-and-shoulders-only shot. Let's hope we see more of Adele on the U.S cover.
To the mag's credit, Vogue has been stepping out of the conventional cover girl categories. In the issue just out, Meryl Streep, 62, is on the cover, making her the oldest woman on a Vogue cover in the history of the magazine. That just seems so wrong. We can't believe that Helen MIrren hasn't already been on one.
Our advice? Be sure to buy the Meryl and Adele issues and show Vogue that their readers do want some substance -- and variety -- with our style.
