'Adjustment' for Uni, Matt Damon

George Nolfi to make directorial debut on feature

Universal is picking up "The Adjustment Bureau," a George Nolfi spec script that Matt Damon has attached. Nolfi will also make his directorial debut on the picture, which is eyeing a September start.

The project went out to the town last week from Media Rights Capital, which is producing and financing in the $60-$65 million range. Nolfi will also produce, along with Chris Moore, Bill Carraro and Michael Hackett.

The story, with action, romance and sci-fi overtones, sees Damon playing a politician who falls for a ballerina only to find mysterious forces keeping the two apart. "Adjustment" is loosely based on a Philip K. Dick short story.

Nolfi became pals with Damon working on "Ocean's Twelve" and then "The Bourne Ultimatum." He wrote the part for Damon, who will shoot the movie after he's done with "The Human Factor," Clint Eastwood's pic about Nelson Mandela starring Morgan Freeman.

Damon is repped by Endeavor while Nolfi by WMA.
