AFI back at it with Top 10

AFI is expanding its "AFI's 100 Years …" series to include "AFI's 10 Top 10," an entertainment special to count down the 10 best films from 10 genres.

Using the format previously designed for a top 100 list, AFI will honor an expanded list of genres: animation, fantasy, science fiction, gangster, Western, sports, romantic comedy, courtroom drama, mystery and epic.

The top films will be chosen by 1,500 filmmakers, critics and historians from 500 nominated titles (50 per genre), including "Pinocchio" (1941) and "Shrek" (2001) for animation, "King Kong" (1933) and "The Lord of the Rings" (2001) for fantasy and "War of the Worlds" (1953) and "The Matrix" (1999) for sci-fi.

The special will be broadcast in June on CBS.
