Simon West directs the action comedy, also starring Olga Kurylenko.

Simon West's action-comedy Salty, starring Antonio Banderas and Olga Kurylenko, has lined up a raft of international pickups.

The film, being sold worldwide by Carnaby, has been snapped up by AB Groupe (France), Prorom (Bulgaria, the former Yugoslavia, Hungary and Romania), Kino Swiat (Poland), Big Movie (CIS, Baltics), Five STars (Israel), Gulf Film (Middle East), Central Park (Turkey), PT Prima Cinema (Indonesia), Multivision Plus (Malaysia) and A Company (Vietnam).

"There’s been a tremendous amount of interest in Salty ahead of AFM, with buyers lining up to watch the new footage we’re premiering at the market," said Carnaby director of international sales Tania Sarra, who brokered the deals. "We’re excited to show the new footage."

The film sees Banderas play an aging, pampered rock star and reformed sex addict. After being persuaded to go on holiday to Chile, he sees his supermodel wife — played by former Bond girl Kurylenko — abducted by a group of shipless pirates trying to raise money to buy a new boat.

Having never organized anything more challenging than a club sandwich from room service, he’s then forced to navigate the back alleys of Santiago and jungles of South America to rescue his wife from the bandits.

Salty, which wrapped production in Chile this year, has been billed as The Hangover meets Spinal Tap. West (Con Air, 2011’s The Mechanic) directed from a screenplay by Mark Haskell Smith, who adapted his own novel.
