AFM: Dan Stevens to Star in Gareth Evans' Period Thriller 'Apostle'
The 'Beauty and the Beast' star will play a mysterious man who travels to a remote island in search of his missing sister.
Dan Stevens is in negotiations to star in Gareth Evans' Apostle.
In the period thriller, Stevens attempts to rescue his sister after she's kidnapped by a religious cult, which is demanding a ransom for her return. But it soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, who digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.
As exclusively reported by THR, the film will be written and directed by Evans, who rose to fame for The Raid and its sequel.
XYZ Films, Severn Screen and Evans' One More One Productions will produce the project, with XYZ, which is handling international sales, introducing it to buyers at AFM in Santa Monica. The film is eyeing a March 2017 start of production in the U.K.
Stevens, seen next in Disney's Beauty and the Beast reboot, adds the project to his upcoming film slate: Brian Crano's dramedy Permission; Reginald Hudlin's Thurgood Marshall biopic, Marshall; Tim Smit's sci-fi flick Redivider; and FX's X-Men spinoff, Legion.
He is repped by WME and Julian Belfrage Associates.
