AFM: Liam Neeson’s ‘The Trainer’ Gallops to eOne

The horse racing drama from Neil Jordan was acquired by the distributor for the U.K. and Australia.

Entertainment One has taken U.K. and Australian rights to one of AFM’s starrier new titles: The Trainer, which is set to reunite box-office favorite Liam Neeson with Oscar-winning director Neil Jordan.

HanWay is handling international sales on the film, which is slated to begin shooting in Ireland next summer and will see Neeson play a disillusioned horse trainer who reignites his love of racing will the help of a teenage refugee.

Sully scribe Todd Komarnicki co-wrote the script alongside David Donahue and James Villemaire, with Komarnicki, Arthur Lappin, Robin Gurland and Gregory O’Connor producing.

“Having eOne come on board in the U.K. and Ireland, the film’s home territory, and also Australia is a ringing endorsement that The Trainer is being recognized in the market as the perfect mix of a first-class film team and a powerful story with wide mainstream appeal,” HanWay managing director Gabrielle Stewart said Saturday in a statement.
