Gaumont and Wild Bunch are set to handle sales for the title, which will begin filming in the first quarter of 2015 in L.A.

Nicolas Winding Refn is set to direct the female-driven horror film The Neon Demon, which will shoot in the first quarter of 2015 in Los Angeles.

Paris-based Gaumont and Wild Bunch will co-finance and co-distribute the film and will handle sales for the title.

"One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty," Refn said. "After making Drive and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of The Neon Demon."

Refn penned the script, which has the tagline "the wicked die young," with first-time writer Mary Laws, a recent graduate of Yale's MFA playwrighting program.

The Neon Demon will reunite the Drive and Only God Forgives director with regular collaborators, including editor Matthew Newman and composer Cliff Martinez. They'll be joined by director of photography Philippe Le Sourd (The Grand Master).

Casting will be announced later this year.

Refn's longtime partner, Lene Borglum, who worked with the director on Valhalla Rising and Only God Forgives will be producing under their Space Rocket banner.

"This movie is a manifestation of the strong ties between us and will lead to many more adventures," said Winding Refn of working with the French companies.

Winding Refn is also currently developing the Barbarella series for Gaumont's L.A.-based television arm.
