AFM: Werner Herzog's 'Queen of the Desert' Nabbed by IFC Films for U.S.

Nicole Kidman and James Franco star in the true story of British explorer Gertrude Bell.

IFC Films has nabbed U.S. rights to Werner Herzog's Queen of the Desert

Nicole Kidman stars as the real-life English cartographer Gertrude Bell as she charts the modern borders of the Middle East.

James Franco, Robert Pattinson and Damian Lewis also star in the biopic that was written and directed by Herzog.   

Michael Benaroya, Cassian Elwes and Nick Raslan produced the project, with Jonathan Debin, Cathy Gesualdo, James Lejsek, Ben Sachs, D. Todd Shepherd, Shelley Madison, Harmon Kaslow and John Aglialoro acting as executive producers.

The deal was negotiated by CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.

IFC plans to release Queen of the Desert in spring.
