AFTRA sound talks continue

AFTRA's contract covering sound-recording professionals expired Saturday, but officials said talks on a new pact were continuing for now.

The negotiations have been going on for months, and in recent weeks union officials privately expressed exasperation over the number of outstanding issues still to be resolved. Nettlesome issues ranged from compensation and benefit details to matters related to work rules and working conditions, sources said.

AFTRA officials declined comment on the contract expiration. Throughout the talks, union execs have cited a confidentiality agreement with management-side negotiators and refused to discuss the negotiations in any detail.
