Agencies play musical chairs

Hollywood's agency shuffle continued Tuesday, affecting two longtime reps. Sarah Clossey jumped ship to UTA from Paradigm, where she was head of talent. Paradigm immediately filled the void by naming veteran agent Steve Small co-head of the agency's talent department, where he will serve alongside incumbent department head Michael Lazo.

Clossey, who repped such clients at Paradigm as Steven Weber, Rashida Jones, Mia Kirshner and James Garner, will take Weber and Jones with her, according to the agency. A UTA spokesman would not confirm the move, but sources inside the agency said Clossey will begin in her new post June 15.

Small, who handles many of Paradigm's biggest names, including Teri Hatcher, Denis Leary, Cole Hauser, Snoop Dogg and Dean Cain, has long been rumored to take on a greater role at the agency. His promotion will be effective immediately.

Although Clossey, who worked with Small at Writers and Artists Group International before the boutique agency was bought by Paradigm, had several months remaining on her Paradigm contract, sources within the agency said they chose not to fight her move to UTA. Clossey started her industry career as an assistant to filmmaker James Cameron. She then moved on to CAA for three years, followed by a stint at a production company for Michael Lessac, before ending up at WAGI. In January, she was made co-head of talent at Paradigm.

Small began his tenure at Paradigm in September 2004, when Paradigm purchased WAGI, where he had been an agent since 2000. Before that, he spent five years at UTA and five years at ICM.

"Steve Small is a smart, aggressive and talented agent who will be a great leader in our talent department working side by side with Michael Lazo, whose strengths are very complementary," Paradigm chairman Sam Gores said. "This move will greatly benefit our clients as well as our talent agents, who will profit from the wealth of knowledge and intelligence they both bring to the profession."

Added Small, "We're doing something special here at Paradigm, and I am passionate about getting more involved to help us achieve all of our goals."
