'Air Doll' lands in France with Fortissimo sale
Ocean Films buys tale of blow-up doll come to lifeTOKYO -- Just days after being granted a Competition slot at next month's Festival de Cannes, Fortissimo Films has sold French rights for Hirokazu Kore-eda's "Air Doll" to Ocean Films.
"Air Doll" tells the story of a blow-up doll -- Korean actress Bu-na Dae -- who comes to life and falls in love with a video store clerk, played by Joe Odagiri ("Sometimes Dad"), and examines the meaning of human existence.
Kore-eda's last project, "Still Walking," won him best director at March's Asian Film Awards and the CEC Award for best film at San Sebastian 2008.
The deal, announced Monday, was brokered between Fortissimo co-chairman Michael J. Werner and Ocean Films' managing director Eric Heumann.
Fortissimo is handling worldwide sales outside Japan.
