The documentary makes its world premiere Thursday at the Sundance Film Festival, where it's the opening night film.

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore's An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power will open nationwide in theaters on July 28.

Paramount announced the release date Thursday morning, hours before the documentary opens the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where it's among a slew of films addressing climate change.

An Inconvenient Sequel comes 11 years after An Inconvenient Truth earned $50 million at the worldwide box office, becoming one of the top-grossing docs of all time and winning the Oscar for best documentary.

That movie, from Paramount Vantage, also made its debut at Sundance Film Festival before debuting in select theaters on May 24, 2006.

Paramount partnered with Participant on both films.
