Alchemy Picks Up Documentary 'Meet the Patels'
The film by Geeta V. Patel and Ravi V. Patel will be released theatrically later this year.
Alchemy has acquired all North American rights to Meet the Patels, the documentary by the sibling team of Geeta V. Patel and Ravi Patel about an Indian-American’s experiences in the dating scene.
The film, produced by Janet Eckholm and Geeta V. Patel, will receive a theatrical release later this year. It premiered at last summer’s Los Angeles Film Festival, where it won the audience award and went on to win that same award at Hot Docs and Michael Moore’s Traverse City Film Festival, where it also won best film.
“Meet the Patels is a hilarious and universal story about family, cultural identity and the search for love,” Alchemy CEO Bill Lee said in announcing the acquisition.
Alchemy vp acquisitions Jeff Deutchman negotiated the deal with UTA Independent Film Group, which repped the filmmakers. The Patels are also represented by UTA.
