Aldrich snared for Alcon's 'Trap' redo

Matthew Aldrich is in negotiations to write the thriller "The Trap," which Ericson Core might direct for Alcon Entertainment.

"Trap" is a remake of a 2007 Serbian film about an ordinary man who agrees to commit a contract murder to pay for his son's life-saving surgery.

Matt Riklin is producing along with Alcon's Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. Steven Wegner of Alcon is executive producing. Warner Bros. will release the film through Alcon's output deal.

Aldrich, repped by Gersh and Silent R Management, has a history with Alcon. He is rewriting "Valet" for the company and has "Counterfeit Son" set up there.

Aldrich wrote Screen Gems' "Cleaner," which premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Gersh-repped Core is a well-known cinematographer who made his directorial debut on "Invincible" in 2006. He's also attached to direct "Counterfeit Son."

Alcon most recently produced "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," "P.S. I Love You" and "The Wicker Man."

The company also is moving forward with a February shoot of "The Book of Eli," directed by Albert and Allen Hughes and starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman. (partialdiff)
