Alicia Vikander Does the No-Makeup Look Right for 'Interview' Cover
The Swedish It Girl's makeup artist, Peter Philips, reveals what he used to create her natural look.
Ex Machina actress Alicia Vikander truly bared all on her new Interview magazine cover. Like Lady Gaga on Harper’s Bazaar; Gisele Bundchen for Sonia Rykiel; January Jones and Laverne Cox in Instagram selfies; and top models on many a runway before her, the Swedish beauty was photographed barefaced.
Frequently, the no-makeup look actually involves a plethora of cosmetics applied expertly to appear natural — a concept Amy Schumer parodied recently with a hilarious music video. But in the hands of Peter Philips, the creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup, Vikander needed next to nothing for her close-up, which was shot by Craig McDean.
"Working with Alicia is a pure pleasure," Philips tells Pret-a-Reporter. "She’s confident in her natural beauty." And he let it shine, using only "some almond oil and Diorskin Nude Air foundation" ($53) on her skin. The last product? Kryolan Clown White, which the makeup master blended in for highlights.
Vikander's cover was one of three for the June-July issue; the other two feature Jai Courtney and Domhnall Gleeson as part of "The New Hollywood Heavies" portfolio. Also in the issue: a feature called “The New Wave,” featuring up-and-coming young talent including Carrie Fisher and Bryan Lourd’s daughter, Billie Catherine Lourd, in her first official editorial feature.
