Alicia Vikander Rocked Shimmery Silver Nails to Accept Her Gold Statue
Nail artist Deborah Lippmann explains the sparkly look.
The heavily embellished pale yellow Louis Vuitton gown best supporting actress nominee Alicia Vikander donned down the Oscars red carpet didn't need much else to help get it noticed (Vikander’s brilliantly bronzed skin and statement earrings helped quite a bit), so celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann went for a subtle silver sparkle to mirror the beading and appliqué of her dress.
“I’ve gotten to know her quite a bit and beauty-wise, she has grown a lot,” says Lippmann. “She has gone from nothing, nothing, nothing to wanting to try things and I knew today it had to be something special.” Lippmann even joked as Vikander got ready that the nail color should be a matching pale yellow, which apparently almost made the actress' stylist faint.
While a matching shade clearly wasn’t the intended direction, a subtle, silver sparkle that picked up on the embellishment festooned all over Vikander’s gown and her strappy silver sandals, was.
“I chose this base coat called All About That Base ($20) (from Lippmann’s eponymous nail collection) which gives a full coverage to the nail and evens everything out,” says Lippmann. “But I knew it shouldn’t be nothing, because it is the Oscars.” So she painted a few coats of Bring on The Bling ($20) to Vikander’s nails over the base coat. “It's got a little bit of silver sparkle in it and it tied into everything going on with the dress, because the dress was busy, busy, busy.”
