The streamer, fresh off of a fruitful Emmys with 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,' has hired Variety and TV Guide alum Debra Birnbaum.

Amazon Studios, the streaming film and TV branch of the retail behemoth, has hired an awards director after its particularly fruitful showing at the 2018 Emmys.

The studio on Monday announced that editor Debra Birnbaum is jumping sides to oversee all aspects of the studio's campaigns, including strategy, marketing, advertising and awards publicity and events across both television and film. Birnbaum will report directly to Mike Benson, the studio's director of marketing.

Awards have previously come to Amazon, mostly for its TV comedy efforts. Transparent, before all of the controversy over accusations against former star Jeffrey Tambor, was a true critical breakout. Mozart in the Jungle also proved to be a unique success with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Golden Globes. But nothing compares to eight Primetime Emmy Awards, including best comedy and lead comedy actress, that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took home in September.

Birnbaum heads to Amazon after more than two decades working as an editor and journalist covering the entertainment industry. Most recently, she served as executive editor, TV, at Variety. That was after a long tenure at TV Guide, where she served as president and editor-in-chief.

Amazon's awards hire comes after a particularly bold move in the space from rival Netflix. The dominant streamer hired go-to awards strategist Lisa Taback and acquired her independent LT-LA consulting firm in July.
