AMC exec to be honored at ShowEast

Samuel Gourley is recipient of humanitarian award

AMC Entertainment film president Samuel "Sonny" Gourley will be honored with the Salah M. Hassanein Humanitarian Award at ShowEast 2009.

Gourley will be feted during the Oct. 29 awards gala set to close the annual exhibition confab. ShowEast opens Oct. 22 at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

"It is amazing to think that in addition to assisting with all aspects of programming for AMC's North American screens, Gourley has the time and drive to champion charitable and philanthropic causes within the industry," ShowEast co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said.

Appointed to his current post in 2005, Gourley joined AMC in 1975 as assistant manager at AMC Woodhaven 4 in suburban Philadelphia. As film president, he helps oversee programming of more than 4,500 movie screens and negotiates film-rental terms with studios.

Gourley serves on the advisory boards of local chapters of Variety-The Children's Charity in Los Angeles and Kansas City, Mo. He also supports the Will Rogers Institute and has worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Special Olympics and the Project Open Hand homebound-meals service.

Previous Hassanein award recipients include last year's honoree, former MGM exec Clark Woods.
