AMC is betting that The Walking Dead will breathe life into its new virtual reality app.

The cable network has launched AMC VR, its new hub for immersive video, with an extended bonus scene from the popular zombie drama. The 360-degree scene, which will feature Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Seth Gilliam, will debut on the app following the upcoming season-eight premiere of The Walking Dead. The scene, produced by Moth + Flame, was directed by Greg Nicotero, an executive producer and special effects makeup supervisor on the series, and co-directed by Kevin Cornish. It will become available on the AMC VR app following the conclusion of Sunday's episode, the series' 100th, which will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

People who download the AMC VR app will be able to experience a number of immersive projects that AMC has issued, including The Walking Dead VR series Attacked, which was also directed by Nicotero. In addition to the two parts that have already been released, two new installments will be available. There are also new chapters of Into the Badlands series Virtual Reality Fight Camp, in which stars Daniel Wu, Aramis Knight and Ally Ioannides practice choreographed fights from the show.

Additional content available on the app includes video extras, behind-the-scenes and trailers that can be viewed in a VR screening room.

"We're doing this from a creative place," said Mac McKean, executive vp innovation for AMC and SundanceTV, of the network's VR efforts. "We find the medium to have a lot of interesting promise in unique ways to tell stories that can't be told elsewhere. In the early days of new technology like this, it really is about experimenting." He added that AMC has focused on projects that "make sense to do in VR and really take advantage of the medium."

The AMC VR app will update with more experiences, including a project tied to new original series The Terror. It is available to download via iOS, Android, Gear VR and Google Daydream.
