Phillipa Soo Sings 'Times Are Hard for Dreamers' From Broadway's 'Amelie' Musical
The 'Hamilton' breakout stars opposite Adam Chanler-Berat in the new stage adaptation of the beloved 2001 French film.
Hamilton breakout Phillipa Soo is nearly back on Broadway in Amelie, the musical adaptation of the beloved 2001 French film.
She and the cast previewed a handful of the show's songs during an intimate concert at The Cutting Room in New York City on Friday. Among the tunes were the titular character's adventurous track "Times Are Hard for Dreamers" and the romantic ballad "Stay," during which she debates getting closer to Nino, played by Adam Chanler-Berat.
Amelie, A New Musical is set in a whimsical version of contemporary Paris and follows the shy Amelie through the magical Montmartre of her imagination, chronicling her dilemma as she discovers that it's easier to bring joy to others than break free from her own isolation.
Directed by Pam MacKinnon, the musical features a book by Craig Lucas and music by Daniel Messe of Brooklyn alt-rock band Hem, lyrics by Messe and Nathan Tysen and choreography by Sam Pinkleton. The Broadway production begins previews March 9 at the Walter Kerr Theatre ahead of its official opening on April 3.
