Braids Make a Beauty Statement at the American Music Awards
Mary Lambert, Jhene Aiko and Olivia Munn took their updos to the next level with bold braids
Forget Boho-style braids that are better reserved for a slept in, off-duty day. Several celebs at the 2014 American Music Awards proved that braids could look more edgy than ethereal, particularly when fixed across the forehead like a statement accessory or snaking down one side of the head to create a shaved effect to the hair.
Singer Mary Lambert and R&B artist Jhene Aiko rocked thick front braids, while the girls in Fergie's entourage wore more street-inspired twists that ended in multiple ponytails around their shoulders.
Looking stunning from her braids to belted gold gown was Olivia Munn, who had a braid on each side of her raven hair — definitely a departure from the textured lob she tends to rely on.
Braids are not as much of a commitment as actually shaving the underside of the hair but can still give a similar edgy effect, plus they're easy enough to try at home.
