Jason Hall was nominated for an Oscar and now will make his directorial debut.

American Sniper screenwriter Jason Hall is in negotiations to make his directorial debut with Thank You for Your Service, DreamWorks’ post-traumatic stress disorder drama.

Hall already wrote the script for the project, which is based on David Finkel’s book.

DreamWorks acquired the rights to the book as an unpublished manuscript in March 2013.  The book was published later in October 2014, while Hall came on board to write the script in May 2014.

The script follows three U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq who struggle to integrate back into family and civilian life, coping with the horrific memories of a war that threatens to destroy them long after they’ve left the battlefield.

Hall is already well-versed in this dramatic territory, as he told the story of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s attempt to reconcile military life with his home life in American Sniper. The movie earned Hall an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay and also became a major box-office hit.

Hall is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
