'Will & Grace' showrunner debuts project

Gary Janetti developing show about gay, straight friends

Former "Will & Grace" executive producer/co-showrunner Gary Janetti is returning to NBC with another multicamera comedy about a gay-straight friendship.

The untitled project, which has received a script commitment with a hefty penalty, is described as a buddy comedy about a gay man and a straight man who are best friends.

The show hails from 20th Century Fox TV, where Janetti has an overall deal.

It marks the first major deal between NBC and 20th TV since the network's May cancellation of the 20th TV-produced "My Name Is Earl" after four seasons.

WME-repped Janetti worked on the first incarnation of Fox/20th TV's "Family Guy" until the show's 2003 cancellation, when he moved to NBC Uni to work on "Will & Grace" and write/exec produce NBC's 2007 pilot "The Mastersons of Manhattan."

Under his current overall deal with 20th TV, Janetti has been consulting on "Family Guy" while developing projects.
