Amp'd up in Canada


TORONTO -- U.S. mobile phone operator Amp'd Mobile on Monday launched in Canada using Telus Corp.'s network and targeting young Canadians with streaming music and TV, much of it homegrown.

Amp'd Mobile, which operates stateside via Verizon, has a host of content deals with Canadian producers, including broadcasters Chum Ltd., MTV Canada, Score Media Inc. and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., to fill about 20 video-on-demand channels and streaming radio and TV on offer here.

In addition to traditional voice and text cell phone offerings, Amp'd Mobile is targeting young Canadians with access to content ranging from exclusive music tracks and videos to live entertainment and 3-D games.
