The former Vogue editor-at-large joins the online retailer after 30 years at the Conde Nast glossy.

Zappos Couture, the higher-end arm of Tony Hsieh's online shoe-selling empire, is hoping to up the ante by tapping Andre Leon Talley as its new artistic director.

The former Vogue editor-at-large will oversee editorial content on the Amazon-owned site, including fashion shoots, videos and trend picks. "The digital universe is a new, exciting opportunity for me to reach a broad audience in terms of the global luxury market," Talley told WWD. His goal is to "create something unique, in terms of a Web magazine within the Zappos Couture website, that conveys the immediacy and excitement of luxury retail products, season by season.

Having spent three decades at Vogue, Talley will continue his fashion influence with a one-year partnership with Zappos Couture -- his first commercial foray with a retailer or brand. Talley left Conde Nast in March, then joined Numero Russia as the editor-at-large.

With Talley's creative eye and editorial experience, the Las Vegas-based e-commerce site, which carries brands including Jimmy ChooMarc Jacobs and Prada, hopes to "become the destination in online luxury shopping," said Jennifer Sidary, head of couture at Zappos Couture.

Zappos Couture's current editorial content includes a weekly video called "The Trend," which features red-carpet interviews with designers and celebrities. Considering Talley's adorable Vogue interview with Beasts of the Southern Wild actress Quvenzhane Wallis earlier this year, it will be interesting to see which Hollywood star he'll bring to the digital retail scene.
