Casey Affleck, Mahershala Ali and Annette Bening also will be recognized at the event.

Andrew Garfield will receive the Spotlight Award at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival for his performance in Hacksaw Ridge, it was announced Tuesday.

In director Mel Gibson's real-life drama, Garfield plays U.S. Army medic Desmond Doss, who fought in one of the bloodiest battles of World War II without a gun. He became the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Garfield was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Hacksaw Ridge, as well as a SAG Award nomination. He also plays a Jesuit priest in Martin Scorsese's Silence, a religious period drama and awards hopeful.

Casey Affleck, Mahershala Ali, Annette Bening and the cast of Hidden Figures are among the fest's other honorees, who will be recognized at the Film Awards Gala on Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The festival is set to run Jan. 2-16.
