The Tony-nominated 'Book of Mormon' alum will play King George while Jonathan Groff shoots HBO's 'Looking' film.

There's a new king on the throne.

Andrew Rannells will step into Hamilton on Broadway as King George, reigning from Oct. 27 to Nov. 29 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. He is set briefly to replace Jonathan Groff, who will take a prenegotiated one-month leave to shoot HBO’s Looking finale film. Groff will return to Hamilton on Dec. 1.

Besides Groff, the comical crowned role of the hot-ticket show following the life of Alexander Hamilton was also previously played by Brian D'Arcy James during the early part of Hamilton's premiere off-Broadway run at The Public Theater.

Rannells, who nabbed a Tony nomination for originating the role of Elder Price in The Book of Mormon, most recently rotated into the title role of Hedwig and the Angry Inch last season on Broadway. On the big screen, he currently appears in The Intern and will next be seen in the second season of Cinemax's The Knick and the fifth season of HBO's Girls.
