The Warner Bros. 3D film will hit theaters on October 21, 2016.

Andy Serkis' take on The Jungle Book is set for a fall 2016 theatrical release in the U.S., Warner Bros. said on Friday.

The 3D film, Jungle Book: Origins, will hit theaters on October 21, 2016. Also set for release that weekend is an untitled Blumhouse horror film from Universal.

The Jungle Book project is one of two high-profile films in development based on the title. Disney's live action The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau, will bow in theaters a year prior to Serkis' film, on October 9, 2015.

Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken and Ben Kingsley are featured among the cast of Favreau's film.

Casting announcements have yet to be made for Serkis' film. The filmmaker is known for acting roles in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Rise of the Planet of the Apes
