Animal Planet Renews 'Ice Cold Gold' for Third Season (Exclusive)

The unscripted series has boosted the Discovery-owned cable network among male demos by double digits.

Animal Planet is betting on more Ice Cold Gold.

The Discovery-owned cable network has renewed the unscripted series for a third season for a winter 2015 premiere. The new episodes will "explore the most remote, untouched pockets of Greenland for gold and precious gems."

Ice Cold Gold's renewal comes on the heels of a successful sophomore season, which averaged 796,000 viewers. The series has also boosted Animal Planet's Thursday performance among male viewers in the 18-39 and 25-54 demos versus last year.

Ice Cold Gold is a Moxie Pictures production. Executive producers are David Casey, Dan Levinson and Robert Fernandez, with Cynthia Palormo and co-executive producer Katherine Walker. For Animal Planet, Melinda Toporoff is executive producer, and Pat Dempsey is associate producer.

The series was developed by Animal Planet's Kurt Tondorf and is based on an original concept by Casey.
