Anna Chlumsky Makeup Look SAG - P 2016

Makeup guru Jo Baker shares her take on Sophia Loren's iconic look.

When it came to deciding on a makeup look to complement her dramatic black Christian Siriano gown at the SAG awards Saturday, Veep star Anna Chlumsky "wanted something really edgy and dramatic," says makeup artist Jo Baker. "[Her hairstylist] Giannandrea was talking about visiting his family in Italy last summer, and spoke of the Italian women and vintage elegance and style they have. It inspired me to hone in on a modern version, heavily influenced by Sophia Loren and Italian women in the sixties."

The result? A fresh spin on Loren’s signature cat eye, paired with a peachy nude lip. To create Chlumsky’s smoldering gaze, Baker began by heavily lining the upper lash line using Exaggerate Smoke n’ Shine in Little Black Smokey by Rimmel ($5.99), then softened lines with a blender brush. Using the remaining product on the brush, Baker created a soft, smoky crease to add dimension and lift eyes upward and outward. "It created a modern cat-eye look without feeling too heavy or overpowering," she says.

For added dimension, Baker applied three to four coats of 24HR Supercurler Mascara by Rimmel (which she loves for its inky color and its lasting ability to keep lashes from falling). And for the final step, Baker brightened and opened up the look by lining the inside of Chlumsky’s eyes with ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Liner in Nude by Rimmel ($4.49; her beauty hack for making almond eyes look bigger and rounder). Added bonus: "Being waterproof also means that it’s going to stay the distance and not let me down!"
