Anthony Anderson to Star in, Produce Sports-Themed Rom-Com 'Football or Me'
Stuart Ford's AGC Studios is producing and fully financing the feature, based on the hit Argentine comedy 'El Futbol O Yo.'
Black-ish star Anthony Anderson is attached to produce, and play the lead in, Football or Me, a U.S. adaption of the hit Argentine comedy El Futbol O Yo, which Stuart Ford's AGC Studios will fully finance and produce.
Anderson plays Peter, a lifelong American football addict who falls for the smart, successful and stunning Veronica, and has to decide if he is willing to sacrifice his love of the game for the love of his life.
The Argentine original, which sold internationally under the English title My Love or My Passion, starred Adrian Suar as the soccer addict and Julieta Díaz as Veronica. Black-ish writer Robb Chavis will adapt the screenplay for the US version.
Badabing Pictures’ Tracey Bing and producer Benedict Carver will also act as producers on Football or Me, together with E. Brian Dobbins and Jose Levy. Bing produced Netflix rom-com Nappily Ever After, which Carver executive produced. Bing also executive produced Southside With You, which Ford’s IM Global financed.
Ford, AGC's Head of Film Greg Shapiro and Head of Urban Glendon Palmer will executive produce Football or Me.
The deal with Anderson was negotiated by AGC’s vp legal and business affairs, Anant Tamirisa, and Palmer on behalf of AGC; by UTA, Artists First, and Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher on behalf of Anderson; and by attorney Richard Rapkowski of Manis Rapkowski on behalf of Bing and Carver.
