Apple mulls new pay deal for Jobs

NEW YORK -- Apple Inc. is considering a new compensation package for CEO Steve Jobs, the company said in its annual report late last week without providing much detail. Jobs has been paid a nominal annual salary of $1 over the past decade, while also getting restricted stock and other special awards from the Apple board from time to time. "Because Mr. Jobs's continued leadership is critical to Apple, the compensation committee is considering additional compensation arrangements for him," the annual report stated. Some stock option grants that Jobs has received have been investigated by federal authorities because they came at a very low exercise price.
