The new apps on the over-the-top device include ABC News, AOL On, PBS Kids and Willow TV.

Apple is beefing up the programming available on its Apple TV streaming set-top box, adding ABC News, AOL On, PBS Kids and Willow TV apps.

ABC already has an app on the Apple TV where people with cable subscriptions can watch full news broadcasts, but the ABC News app will be a standalone portal with free live hourly news updates, highlights, streaming digital content and archives. The app will feature clipped content from a number of national broadcasts including Good Morning America and World News with Diane Sawyer. It will also provide affiliate content from nine major markets including New York and Los Angeles.

The AOL On app features access to its more than 25 AOL Originals and curated content from across its entertainment, sports, food, news and tech verticals. It will also offer videos from its network of sites, including The Huffington Post and TechCrunch.

The PBS Kids app will act as a compliment to the PBS app already available, offering episodes and clips of popular shows including Sesame Street, often within 24 hours of their broadcast. Willow TV, a cricket broadcasters available in the United States and Canada, makes clips, highlights and live streaming of matches for a $14.99 monthly subscription fee.

Apple TV already features a number of apps, including Hulu Plus, Netflix, HBO Go, YouTube and Flickr.
