Arclight bows U.K. office

Gary Hamilton's Los Angeles-based Arclight Films is opening an outpost in the U.K. and has appointed producer Damon Bryant to head production and acquisitions for its two divisions, Darclight and Easternlight.

A former ICM agent and a founding partner in Jude Law's Natural Nylon, Bryant had his first association with Arclight as one of the producers on "Flashbacks of a Fool," starring Daniel Craig. The movie was partly financed by Buena Vista International U.K., which is distributing the film there.

Hamilton said it is "important" for Arclight's growth to have "a European base" since it is expanding its production and sales operations.

"Our relationship with Damon has been very rewarding, and I am really pleased that he is able to join us and fulfill this role," Hamilton said.

Bryant called the appointment "an exciting opportunity," adding that he would use his production experience "to help enhance the U.K. and European operations of an international company that is growing."

Bryant's credits include co-producing David Cronenberg's "eXistenZ"; "Max," starring John Cusack; and "Owning Mahowny," headlined by Philip Seymour Hoffman. He also produced "Nora," starring Ewan McGregor, another partner in Natural Nylon.

Written and directed by Baillie Walsh, "Flashbacks" stars Craig as a fading Hollywood star who is forced to deal with the ghosts of his past.

In addition to the U.K., the film has been licensed for distribution in Canada, Greece and Portugal, and Arclight is "in talks" for U.S. distribution.
