Hong Kong filmmakers Andrew Lau and Andrew Loo will produce, and possibly direct, the heist thriller.

International film finance and sales company Arclight Films has entered a multi-picture deal with Leeding Media, a firm specializing in cross-border collaboration between Hollywood and China. The partners are kicking off the relationship with the English-language heist film Safecracker, to be produced by Hong Kong filmmakers Andrew Lau and Andrew Loo.

Billed as an action-thriller, Safecracker centers on an expert criminal who is forced out of retirement when he’s framed for murder and must perform a complicated heist to prove his innocence. It's not yet clear whether Lau and Loo, who co-directed the 2014 Martin Scorsese-exec produced film Revenge Of The Green Dragons, will also direct (Lau remains best known for his work with Alan Mak on the Infernal Affairs trilogy, which Scorsese remade as The Departed).

Leeding Media will co-finance and oversee production on the project, with Lau and Loo producing via their banner Initial A Entertainment. Also producing are: Arclight Film's CEO Gary Hamilton; Arclight's head of production, Mike Gabrawy; Ying Ye of Shanghai Aurora Alliance; and Leeding Media's CEO David Lee and COO Steven Squillante, along with Prato Productions' Elyse Eisenberg.

“We are thrilled to be forging this new and significant relationship with our esteemed friends at Leeding Media” stated Hamilton. “We are excited to begin this partnership with Safecracker, a smart and stylish genre film that we believe has significant global commercial potential.”
