ARD gets mobile with MFD

BERLIN -- German mobile TV provider MFD has signed a deal with German pubcaster ARD to broadcast ARD programming on MFD's watcha mobile TV service.

The deal, announced Wednesday, will see watcha carry full-length ARD programming including news, major league soccer and such top-rated shows as soap "Forbidden Love" and late-night talker "The Harald Schmidt Show."

With the agreement, MFD expands its mobile TV offering from four to five channels, which are broadcast nationwide.

Other mobile channels include ones from pubcaster ZDF, all-news channel N24, MTV Music and a mobile-only channel produced by commercial broadcasting group ProSiebenSat.1.

MFD is Germany's only nationwide mobile TV provider. The group plans to expand its mobile TV offer from five to ten channels by the end of this year.
