Singer's hometown paper denounces Monday's web rumors with a report from a source close to the Motown legend.

Great news all around: Aretha Franklin is alive and recuperating from recent surgery and certainly is not dead confirms her hometown newspaper the Detroit Free Press after reports to the contrary raced through the cyber universe Monday. Trending on Twitter and ubiquitous rumors on other social media sites sparked a panic with fans around the world earlier in the day.

The paper quotes a source close to the 68-year-old singer with delivering the good news, telling a reporter that the Motown legend known as the Queen of Soul is "home, alive and recovering."

Franklin was discharged from a Detroit hospital earlier this month after undergoing surgery, reportedly for pancreatic cancer.
