'Ark' triumph for Columbia, Moritz

Columbia Pictures has acquired the rights to the Dark Horse Comics graphic novel "The Ark," with Neal Moritz producing through his Original Film banner. The screenplay will be written by Mark Verheiden, creator of the comic.

Dark Horse publisher Mike Richardson also will produce.

"Ark" first appeared in 1998 in the anthology series Dark Horse Presents, the comic book that also launched graphic novels like Frank Miller's "Sin City."

Moritz most recently produced Sony's "Gridiron Gang," which bowed at No. 1 at the boxoffice in September.
