Arnon Milchan Set for Gotham Awards Industry Tribute

The New Regency head will be honored alongside Amy Adams, Ethan Hawke and Oliver Stone at the independent film awards, set to be held Nov. 28.

Arnon Milchan is set to receive the industry tribute at the 2016 Gotham Independent Film Awards, it was announced Thursday.

The New Regency founder and chairman will be honored alongside previously announced director tribute recipient Oliver Stone, actress tribute recipient Amy Adams and actor tribute recipient Ethan Hawke.

“Arnon Milchan exemplifies the passion, drive, and innovative thinking essential to independent film,” Joana Vicente, executive director of the Independent Filmmakers Project, which presents the Gotham Awards, and the Made in NY Media Center, said in a statement. “We can think of few others who have so consistently supported the best in auteur-driven filmmaking, working with such talent as Oliver Stone, David Fincher and Alejandro G. Inarritu. We’re thrilled to be presenting him with this year’s Industry Tribute at the Gotham Awards.”

Milchan's New Regency and 20th Century Fox are behind Warren Beatty's awards hopeful Rules Don't Apply, which is set to hit theaters on Nov. 23. Other upcoming New Regency titles include Assassin's Creed, with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, and Gore Verbinski's A Cure for Wellness.

Previous New Regency films include JFK, Fight Club, L.A. Confidential, Gone Girl, The Big Short, The Revenant and the 2013 and 2014 best picture Oscar winners 12 Years a Slave and Birdman, respectively.

Past tribute recipients include Robert Redford, Todd Haynes, Helen Mirren, Steve Golin, Matt Damon, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Kate Winslet, Bennett Miller, Richard Linklater, Spike Lee, David O. Russell, Ted Sarandos, Jeff Skoll, Tom Rothman, James Schamus and Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

The 2016 Gotham Awards, seen as the official start of Oscar season, are set for Monday, Nov. 28, at New York's Cipriani Wall Street. Nominations will be announced Oct. 20.

Recent Gotham Award winners have included Oscar nominees and winners Spotlight, Birdman, Boyhood, Citizenfour, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Act of Killing, Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Beginners, The Tree of Life, Winter’s Bone and The Hurt Locker.
